Blood Drive for Charity-- Lexington, Ky

Hello all!!

I have a great opportunity to give back to the Lexington community! Most of you are aware that I am trying to raise money for The Lighthouse Ministries (www.thelighthouseministries.org). It is a Christian half-way house in downtown Lexington that helps addicts, homeless, and ex-convicts.

The Lighthouse is currently in a contest for the Blood Center. They are in 4th place as of right now. If they get 1st place, The Lighthouse Ministries will receive a $3500 monetary donation! I know during these times, it is hard for people to donate money, even to a good cause. So here is your chance to donate something we have all have plenty of- Blood! We need as many people possible to donate blood to get the Lighthouse to win this contest. PLUS, when you give blood you are automatically placed into a contest to win a new car! PLUS, giving blood is a wonderful cause all around.

You may donate at the Blood Center (www.kybloodcenter.org) or you can go to the Lighthouse this Sunday afternoon. They will have a mobile blood center set up there!Check out their website above for directions. This Sunday is the last day to donate.

Please help this good cause!

Sanford still battling Obama on stimulus

Gov. Mark Sanford of South Carolina filed a federal lawsuit today for his right to use 10% of that state's "stimulus" money to pay down debt. The other side in the suit is his own legislature.

Sanford seems to be a likely 2012 candidate for President.

Is Universal Health Care a Moral Issue?

It’s an interesting question and one that isn’t easily answered. I don’t know anyone who would see someone suffering and not want them to seek medical help. After careful consideration, I believe to force upon our country a universal health care plan is immoral.

There have been many figures announcing how many people in the U.S. are currently uninsured or underinsured. 46 million people seems to be the most common number as those uninsured. What we need to remember is this number is slightly elevated. According to Liberty and Tyranny by Mark Levin, 9.5 million were not citizens, 17 million lived in households with incomes over $50,000 a year, and 18 million were between the ages of 18-34 and were in good health or chose not to purchase it. So, if these numbers are correct, that would leave 1.5 million people without health insurance that are American citizens who couldn't afford it. But there is a solution to help many of those without health insurance.

In 1965, the Medicaid bill was passed when President Johnson was in office. Medicaid fell under the Social Security Act and currently Medicaid is the largest state expenditure. For those citizens who are unable to purchase health care insurance due to low income, they have the option to get the medical care needed. Children can be eligible for Medicaid, even if the parent is not. Lawfully admitted immigrants may also be eligible for Medicaid.

The moral issue is not if America has universal health care but rather it becomes a moral issue when asked how a decision is made under the universal health care regarding who lives and who dies. Oregon has a state-run health care program for those who live under the poverty line. According to ABC News, Barbara Wagner had lung cancer, which had been in remission, but returned. In order to live, her doctor prescribed medication that cost $4,000 per month. The state-run insurance program refused to pay for the medication but offered to pay for assisted suicide. So, basically, they are telling Ms. Wagner, we won’t pay to help you live, but we will pay to help you die. What kind of message is that sending to the rest of the U.S.? Unfortunately, I see this as a common problem if the universal health care plan is passed. At the request of her doctor, Ms. Wagner was able to receive her medicine free of charge.

There are concerns with the medical professionals staying employed in the medical industry or searching other employment should the universal health care plan be enacted. With the cap of bonuses that the White House is placing on the automobile industry executives, there will certainly be a cap on salaries of physicians and medical specialists. With government-run health care in the U.S., frustrations being felt by doctors to meet the demands of the government may force early retirement of physicians and discourage future students of the medical field to seek employment in other professions. Not only would we have a shortage of doctors, there will be an increase in patients and the quality of the health care will decrease while the wait time to see a doctor for diagnosis of a potential life-threatening ailment could be months away.

The Republicans have planned to unveil the Patients Choice Act on May 20, 2009. This is an alternative to what the Democrats are proposing. Rather than depending on the federal government to determine our health decisions, the Patients Choice Act will provide a tax credit of $2290 for an individual or $5710 for families each year to help those without insurance and use the tax credits to purchase insurance through a private insurance company. This is budget-neutral compared to the $2 trillion already considered for spending on universal health care. Also, the Patients Choice Act will help get people off of Medicaid because of the tax credit and the ability to choose their own doctor.

Until a final decision is made, think about this: the United States already has a universal health care plan. It is Medicaid and Medicare. For all others, it seems to be a choice. If health insurance is not offered by an employer, there are insurance plans available. Like car insurance, the best advice is to compare prices and benefits and choose which you can afford based upon your income. Do you really want to leave your life or death in the hands of the federal government? I certainly do not.

Like driving an Al Gore toilet

It occurred to me this morning that Pres. Barack Obama's new automobile fuel efficiency standards measure up as a world-saving tactic about as well as the Al Gore toilet.

Then I found two blog posts to tell the story very well (here and here.)

My goodness, aren't we progressive?

Barack "Orwell" Obama spins healthcare tale

President Barack Obama's campaign team promises to lower health care costs by spending trillions more of taxpayer dollars, guarantee choice by destroying private sector financing options, and expand access by introducing health care rationing for the first time in American history.
Did I mention he's also promising to "create" 3.5 million socialized medicine jobs, too?

Could the Firearms Freedom Act be coming to a state near you?

Who could have imagined that a draft request received on October 27, 2008 proposing an act to exempt from federal regulation the right to manufacture commercially or privately a personal firearm, a firearm accessory, or ammunition would actually pass? While tea parties were occuring all over the country on April 15, 2009, the Governor of Montana signed into law the Firearms Freedom Act. At the time of this writing, there has been little discussion of this in the mainstream media, but soon, they (the media) will be forced to report this because states such as Tennessee, Arkansas, Mississippi, Texas, and Wyoming are following suit with similar acts in their state legislatures. As a matter of fact, Tennessee has started the voting process on their own Tennessee Firearms Freedom Act just this week.

I'm curious why the media, including the cable news channel networks, are not discussing this? This act is a direct challenge against federal law and will probably go to the Supreme Court. However, if that happens, Montana may threaten to secede from the Union. Texas has threatened this as well. If patriots band together, especially from the states that are proposing Firearms Freedom Acts, the Feds may have their hands tied and have no choice but to allow the states these freedoms. "Article II, section 12, of the Montana constitution clearly secures to Montana citizens, and prohibits government interference with, the right of individual Montana citizens to keep and bear arms. This constitutional protection is unchanged from the 1889 Montana constitution, which was approved by congress and the people of Montana, and the right exists as it was understood at the time that the compact with the United States was agreed upon and adopted by Montana and the United States in 1889." Legislative Services Division, Montana

This legislation should be a wake up call to the federal government that the American people will not tolerate any infringement to their 2nd Amendment rights nor their states rights regarding firearms, firearms accessories, or ammunition. The more states pass similar bills into law, the more difficult it will be for the federal government to enforce any future consideration of imposing stricter gun laws within state territories.

So, instead of 'Made in USA', we will start seeing 'Made in Montana' or 'Made in Arkansas' or 'Made in Wyoming' or 'Made in (fill in your state's name)'.

Talk to potential U.S. Senate candidates

Possible U.S. Senate candidate Rand Paul will be in Lexington Saturday morning for a Republican party breakfast at the Hilton Suites. Cost is $10 at the door.

Secretary of State Trey Grayson will speak to the Women Republicans of Central Kentucky lunch meeting on Wednesday, May 13. Reservations can be made here.

Biggest story you haven't heard of yet

A federal criminal trial starting in Lexington June 8 has it all: murder, corruption, sex, lies, and a massive cover-up that will, when the story gets out in the open, wind up costing Fayette County taxpayers millions of dollars in civil penalties.

Some waste we can't afford

In Ohio, people are starting to notice state legislators have set up a pretty sweet pension-grabbing racket for themselves. From Sunday's Hamilton (OH)) Journal News:

Kentuckians need to realize our guys have been doing the same to us for years.

A lot more people need to know about this. Senate President David Williams and House Speaker Greg Stumbo are heavily invested in the status quo. Can't see changing this while they are still in a position of power.

Spread the word.

Universal Health Care - Obamacare

KY We Surround Them
along with the Cincinnati Ohio 9/12ers are working together and hope to bring others from around the country to help us stop the nationalized healthcare push in the weeks to come.

We know that the President has taken the push for government run healthcare on the road. The drive by media is in the tank and ABC is doing propaganda videos in favor of it. Acorn is mobilized and spreading lies about benefits and entitlements. If the nation is not going to hear the truth from the media, then We need to stand up. We need to be the opposition. We need to be the voice to the people. We need to wake up America; We need to take action…..

Join us and thousands around the country as each one of us take the message of “Free Our Healthcare” to the front doors of America on July 11th or July 18th.

On these two days we are calling on everyone to get together with others and as a group to go out and knock on 100 doors each and tell the message that people will not hear on the evening news or read in the paper about socialized healthcare proposals. We are asking that people come out in their neighborhoods and pass out flyers and let people know the truth and dangers of Obamacare!

- We recommend you get in groups of 4 and choose a date, hour or two, and neighborhood to canvas.
- Go to the KY WST meetup site to download a free our healthcare flyer to print and pass out. Flyer
- Find talking points for information and best practices for presenting the truth. Talking Points
- Develop a short 20 second script to tell the message
- Go out and be the solution instead of just screaming at your TV on either July 11th or July 18th

Please let us know if you can pledge a couple of hours to help STOP nationalized healthcare. We will assist in getting you together with others in your area or if you have a group of 4 already simple RSVP (ensure to mark you have 3 guests) and simply organize and come out either day. We will provide flyers, a sample script, and other resources.

This issue is a dangerous legislation that must be stopped. This may be the only way some people ever hear the truth of what is happening and what may occur if the Senate passes health care reform, and this may be our last chance any us can do anything about it!!!! Make the pledge FREE OUR HEALTH CARE and join us and thousands of other on either July 11th or 18th to STOP OBAMACARE!!!!!!!! This push and all of us could be the last straw that breaks the momentum and stops congress and the senate.

To pledge to go out on July 11th RSVP here JULY 11

To pledge to go out on July 18th RSVP here JULY 18

I'll believe it when I see it

Republicans went from winning elections to losing elections nationally when they gave up the high ground on government spending restraint. Earlier this year, GOP members in Kentucky's General Assembly took it one step further by throwing in the towel on taxes.

Will the Fayette County Republican Party start to rebuild some of that lost credibility by answering tough questions from taxpayers at a May 9th event? We'll see.
