Parental Rights Threatened by UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC)

By Lisa Abler - 6/28/2009 7:15 PM

Newly appointed UN Ambassador Susan Rice has recently floated the idea of the United States ratifying the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). She chastised the United States for being one of only two nations that have not embraced the CRC. The UNCRC is an international treaty which specifically governs what we can and can't do in the rearing of our children. The rules of the treaty range from the criminalization of spanking as a form of discipline to government workers having the final say pertaining to all parental decisions. Parents are taken out of the loop and replaced by government oversight concerning a child's: choice of religion, "right to leisure", Christian education, sex education, and abortions. Basically, the UNCRC would paralyze any parental rights in the United States. It would give our government the power to act in what they deem "the best interest" of our children with the authority to review and impose themselves on any parental decision with which a child disagrees.

Not only does the UNCRC disrupt the parent-child hierarchy, it also undermines one of the most important elements that the federal government is responsible for: the security of our nation. The treaty would outlaw our current defense budget since it would render it illegal for us to spend more on it than our children's welfare. The UN would be dictating our defense budget, as well as our welfare system.

Also, an important local issue, states' rights, would be wiped out. The UNCRC would usurp the 10th amendment. Proof of this is concluded by the United States Supreme Court, Reid v. Covert, 354 U.S. 1 (1957): “To the extent that the United States can validly make treaties, the people and the States have delegated their power to the National Government and the Tenth Amendment is no barrier.”

When informing US citizens about the UNCRC, advocates for this treaty deceptively disguise and mislead people by promoting it as something that protects children from poverty, child abuse, hunger, poor health, and much more. Make no mistake, this treaty is purely intended to control and indoctrinate young citizens of the world with their propaganda and agenda.

American politicians who would like to see the treaty signed are saying that our country would only adhere to the parts of the CRC that are consistent with American sentiments. This is contrary to the concept of a treaty (in which its entirety is binding). This is stupidity on many levels, but the most ridiculous aspect of this approach is that American advocates for this treaty are taking a position where they must be either lying to the American people, or to the UN (depending upon which path they take in the future on the enforcement of the treaty). Why would we sign a treaty under a premise that is girded by dishonesty? While they ambiguously claim they won't fully impose the entire treaty, we could quickly have a UNCRC czar enforcing the treaty to the degree that suits the political interests of his appointer.

Any treaty that the United States signs should be that which is advantageous for our country and one we intend to honor. By signing the UNCRC we gain nothing; we merely give up more liberties, and we sentence our children to direction not based on parents' love, but bureaucrats' bidding.

Ben Chandler steals spotlight from Gov. Mark Sanford and Michael Jackson

Just noticed that four of the eight most popular posts on Kentucky Progress are about U.S. Rep. Ben Chandler's screw-ups.

Chandler (D-Versailles) has enjoyed a charmed political life so far, losing only the 2003 gubernatorial race. He served as state Auditor and Attorney General before being elected to Congress in a 2004 special election.

He has violated his promise to Central Kentucky voters to not raise taxes and he has done this repeatedly. But that has not created a ripple beyond those who were already opposed to him.

Friday's Energy Tax vote, however, may be different. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Early on, it looks a little like the 1993 HillaryCare debacle. America needs this massive boondoggle to fail in the Senate. Failure there may magnify the foolishness of those in the House who, like Chandler, supported the bill. But if the bill's provisions are enacted against the American people this year, it could get nasty for Big Ben. Stay tuned...

Pants on Fire alert

Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, easily one of the craziest members of Congress, just said on the House floor that Cap and Tax will save consumers "$29 billion."

E-mail Ben Chandler

Cap and Trade - Ben Chandler

I don’t want to sound everyday like there is a great since of urgency and we need to act today or the very thread of liberty we hold on to may be destroyed BUT if we want to keep up with the blitzkrieg pace towards the march to socialism we must be vigilant.

As most of you may know as we are focused and distracted by the White House take over of ABC news and get angrier and angrier about government run health care a slide of hand may be taking place. This week a couple of previous thought to be dead bill have been being pushed through without discussion and without much attention. Both of these may be as damaging as the health care issue when they pass. DO NOT GET DISTRACTED we need to fight them on all issues and all fronts.

Friday they will vote on Cap and Trade (House Bill 2454) and card check (Senate). Cap and trade will cost every household an estimate of an additional $1,700 a year. Make no mistake Warren Buffet himself said this is nothing more than a TAX. Card check could kill small and medium businesses and give major control to unions that are in bed with Washington already.

Our own Ben Chandler is reportedly on the fence with the Crap n Slave bill. PLEASE CALL HIM TODAY

Washington 202-224-3121
Kentucky 859-219-1366

Keep this momentum going, we can not let up now (they surly are not). Politians must truly think we the people are stupid or they just do not care. Send them a message and tell them NO to Cap and Trade & Card Check.

As individuals our power may be limited but when we bond together it is limitless.

Thank you and together we will take back this country. 1 phone call, 1 letter, & 1 VOTE at a time.

Send them home now

Franklin County has its first case of swine flu. We should send the legislators home immediately. We wouldn't want them to get sick, would we?

Additional benefits of cutting down on waste, phony spending schemes, and the picking of winners and losers provide solid justification for aborting the current special session, too.

Obama Drama

Posted: L.Manning 06/16/2009

If it weren't bad enough that the Obama supporters are so willing to surrender so many of our Constitutional Rights over to the "One", ABC has willingly surrendered "Freedom of Speech".
On June 24th, ABCNEWS anchor Charlie Gibson will deliver WORLD NEWS from the White House. 'Prescription for America' is an ABC Prime-time special originating from the East Room of the White House, excluding opposing voices on the debate.

We hand our liberties over willingly while the people of Iran die today in a fight for theirs. Ironic, isn't it? Moronic, isn't it?

OHHH, how the mighty have fallen...

Cutting Frankfort waste, increasing accountability to taxpayers

Kentucky Senate Pres. David Williams just said he thinks the bills being crammed down legislators' throats for the special session should wait for the regular session in January and should be acted on before the candidate filing deadline.

Expanded Gambling/Gaming in Kentucky...

Posted by Lisa Manning 06/13/2009

In case you didn't know, Expanded Gambling Bill tied to the horse industry in Kentucky has been kicked around for at least three years that I can remember. For one reason or another, it has died every year. Having friends and family in the horse industry, like many of you, this Bill has always been of great concern to me. I worry about our horse industry. It is the bread and butter of Kentucky and it is hurting. We are being beaten to the punch by states with bigger purses AND breeder incentives or tax breaks. How can we be the "Horse Capitol of the World" when Dubai has a race with a bigger purse than the Kentucky Derby?
Here is the conflict...I am a Christian. I don't think you should gamble and I don't gamble. I don't think you should drink alcohol and I don't drink alcohol, and so on; you get the idea. But we already have gambling at race tracks. And with the computer age a boomin', you can gamble from your computer right now. You can gamble in other countries right now.
So, where do I stand? Well, you will never know because I will never be able to vote on this issue. After hoping year after year that the people would get a chance to decide, it looks like the Fat Cats in Frankfort will decide for us. Thanks for nothing.
Why are they arguing about this again, in a special session, no less? Why are "We the People" not deciding this issue? Why are we wasting money on an issue that has been on the docket for more than three years anyway? Did some of our finest leaders have an epiphany over the issue and are going to somehow pass a Bill? Not likely! Let me ask you this question. If your boss told you to do a job, like answer the telephones when they ring, and it took you over three years to do it; would you have your job today?
I hope our rep's have a nice time at the Governor's big party, on my dime. I can't think of anyone more deserving of a night of celebration than them! A vision of Donald Trump saying "Your fired" comes to mind.

Tale of Two Houses

 Tale of Two Houses

House  #1

A 20 room  mansion (not including 8  bathrooms) heated by natural gas. Add on a pool (and a pool house) and a separate  guest house, all heated by gas. In one month this residence consumes more energy than the average American household does in a year. The  average bill for electricity and natural gas runs over $2400 per month.  In natural gas alone, this property consumes more than 20 times the  national average for an American home.. This house is not situated in a Northern or Midwestern
"snow belt"area. It's in the South.

House  #2

Designed by an architecture professor at a leading national university. This house incorporates every
"green"feature current home construction can provide. The house is 4,000 square feet (4 bedrooms) and is nestled on a high prairie in the American southwest. A central closet in the house holds geothermal heat-pumps drawing ground water through pipes sunk 300 feet into the ground.

The water (usually 67 degrees F) heats the house in the winter and cools it in the  summer. The system uses no fossil fuels such as oil or natural gas and  it consumes one-quarter electricity required for a conventional  heating/cooling system. Rainwater from the roof is collected and funneled into a 25,000 gallon underground cistern. Wastewater from showers, sinks and toilets goes into underground purifying tanks and then into the cistern. The collected water then irrigates the land surrounding the house. Surrounding flowers and shrubs native to the area  enable the property to blend into the surrounding rural landscape.

~~~~~
HOUSE #1
 is  outside of Nashville,  Tennessee;
it is the abode of the"environmentalist" Al Gore.
HOUSE #2
 is  on a ranch near Crawford, Texas;
it is the residence of exPresident of the United States, George W. Bush.
An
"inconvenient truth."
I sure hope  this gets passed to everyone!
And, yes ...  I DID check Snopes prior to forwarding it.
Where's Ben Chandler on ObamaCare?
Looks like the D.C. Dems have a socialized medicine bill, but Rep. Ben Chandler is as quiet as a mouse.
Kentucky State Sovereignty Resolution
"The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.” -- Tenth Amendment, U.S. Constitution
Before there were ever a federal government there were sovereign individual states. Our Constitution was comprised of these states coming together and merely providing a contract between those states for their common good. This was highlighted and articulated in what we read in the 10th amendment. Hence that is why we have became the United States, why we are a republic, and why we are citizens of the Common Wealth of Kentucky. It is my assertion that not only we the people need reminded of these facts but our elected officials need constant reminding as well. We need to jog the memories of our representatives that we are in fact a sovereign state. We need to stand up for the 10th amendment of the United States that affirms this and protects us against the oppression and intrusion of bad policies from the federal government. Our state needs to be once again our first line of defense against unfunded mandates and unconstitutional policies and we need to put the over reaching federal government on notice to leave us alone.
Although such resolutions by themselves would not solve the problem of a federal government which dominates and bankrupts the states by ignoring the Constitution's provisions, these Tenth Amendment resolutions can serve as steppingstones to further state and federal legislation to restore the proper balance of power between the states and the federal government. Kentucky needs to once again be one of the first to pass this or a similar resolution. We need to show that citizens of this common wealth bow to no one, including the federal government.
You can show your support by pursuing both of the following:
Call or write a personal letter to members of the State Government and Governor asking them for a commitment to support a State Sovereignty Resolution in the next secession.
Americans unrealistic about shrinking government
Interesting article in the Washington Examiner on Tuesday pointed out that Americans are mostly clueless when pondering how to escape fiscal ruin:
"Sixty percent of Americans say the federal government has too much power and too much money, according to a Rasmussen poll released last month. And they're right. But what are they willing to do about it?"
"In 2007, the Harris polling firm looked into that question, and the answer was "not much." Very few of us are willing to support the spending reductions necessary to get our fiscal house in order. Harris reports that "hardly anyone would cut Medicaid (4%)... Social Security (2%) or Medicare (1%)" — among the biggest chunks of the federal budget
."
Read the whole thing here. Educating our fellow citizens is certainly an uphill fight. We know we want a different outcome, but need to beef up our knowledge about how to get there.
